Another stellar field of 21 Kentucky Fried Chicken late models were on hand so it would take three heats to figure out what the "b" main would look like.

Followed by the In an action packed opening heat it was Carl Ries holding on to take victory over Matt Pickard and Kyle Borgman. In the second heat it was Roger Wing, Scott Baker and Bryant Dickenson making up the top three and in the final heat it was Dean Huizenga edging out Tim Stott and Mike Fountain in easily the closest finish of the three heats for the late models. With 5 drivers moving on from our last chance qualifier, Eric Monk was able to hold off a hard charging Rob Taylor and Dan Delong. Jason Borton, a rookie in the late model division would start in the front row and lead for most of the early going, but it wasn't long until Michigan Motorsport hall of famer Roger Wing would make his presence known. Wing would take the lead on lap fourteen. Ionia native Scott Baker was a man on a mission all night. After starting in the 11th spot, Baker would work his way to second when a caution on lap 22 would allow him to get right on the bumper of Wing. The yellow flag would come out again, this time with only three laps to go, bunching the field up, and setting up a fantastic finish! No one would have anything for the 55W as he would cruise on to victory over Baker and Carl Ries.
