Mike Fountain jumped out to a four car length lead in the opening laps
of the Kentucky Fried Chicken Late Model event with Eric Monk, Tim
Stott, Scott Phillips, and Tom Dusen all battling for second and
third, often running three wide.
Dusen moved to second while the rest
were still fighting for third. Dan DeLong spun just as he was about to join the front pack, bringing the field closer together. Fountain once again took the lead with Dusen and Monk following while Roger Wing moved to fourth and then third with just ten to go. Dusen began to
reel in Fountain but Wing pulled along side Dusen, passing him and then slid right up beside and then ahead of Fountain and pulled away from the rest of the field. With five to go, Wing had a comfortable lead as the rest of the field was literally under a blanket for the top ten cars. Wing took the win over Stott, Dave Hartman, Scott Baker, Matt Pickard, Dusen, Kurt Mesman, Rob Taylor, Mark Andersen, and Scott Philips. Pickard made his way to the big show by winning the B Main while Monk, Fountain, and Wing claimed heat gold.
