Why I'm Still at CMS
I am glad that I have been at CMS for the majority of my racing career. I am often asked why I have spent all of my career at one
track. There are many reasons for that. First, I like who I work for.
Ron Flinn has always trusted whatever direction or new ideas that I
have. He has always listened to new ideas and helped me improve on
the original idea that I have. In turn, he has always been respectful
of any opinions or ideas. I have never felt micro-managed.
Secondly, I have always had a good relationship with the people in the
tower. Sue Lincoln and Kris Ward have been in the tower with me for
the past 10 years starting with my three-year stint at Ionia Raceway
Park (now I-96 Speedway). I know how to work with them without
interrupting the stressed environment that they are a part of and they
know how to relay info to me without interrupting my announcing. Kim
Fellows has been in the tower with me since I started at CMS and has
always been a big help. Now that Trevor and I have gotten a comfortable system to where we are CO-announcers (instead of a lead announcer and the OTHER announcer), I am quite content with the environment in which I am surrounded.
Thirdly, I have always been welcomed by the fans and drivers. My
summer family has always been good to me. You have always been honest
with me. You have always shared your accomplishment and your sorrows
with me. You cannot imagine the power of that type of connection with
all of you that spend every Saturday night with me.
Do I plan on being at CMS for the remainder of my Announcing career?
I can't tell you that. I do plan to be a part of the track's
announcing duo until Mr. Flinn decides that he no longer wants to
promote the racing at CMS. There is no doubt that I would love to
have the opportunity to move up to do broadcasting for ARCA® or some
lower level of NASCAR®. However, I refuse to over-sell myself or walk
over anyone in my backyard just to further my career. I am willing to
remain loyal to where I have called my home. I know that any higher
achievements in my career would make all of you proud. I would like
to proudly represent all of you that have supported me throughout the
years. I thank you!
