The Season Begins!
The first winner of the night was in the Port City Racing Pro Stock division with Rusty Seaver taking the win. Scott Phillps took the top spot in a tight race in the KFC Late Model main event. Nate Jones continued his 2013 championship form as he won the Engine Pro Pro Truck feature. AJ Ward grabbed the  IMCA Modified feature, while a barn burner in the Smokers Club Street Stock feature was taken by Jasen Wiley. The races On The Web Flinn Stock event was taken by Johnny "Showtime" Miller.  More later Sunday morning!

Racing begins as close to 7:30 as we can make it with the pit gates opening about 4:30 and the main stands opening at 5PM. Front gate adult admission will be $12 on 'regular nights' and $15 on 'special nights.' Kids will remain at $5. A season grandstand pass can be obtained for $220. Pit passes remain at $25. In probably the best deal of the year, a family pass for two adults and two kids is only $25! If you have questions you can drop me an email at This email address is being protected from spambots. When I sent out the email blast to tell people that practice had been cancelled, I got roughly 20 emails bounces. If your email has changed, drop me a note. Please tell me what it was and what it is now. Thanks!

SPECIAL NOTICE!!!!
It probably won't come as a surprise to you after the winter we've had but the extended forecast says the endless winter and its cold weather won't abate until almost June. After careful consultation amongst the Ron and the staff, after the first night of racing, start time will move to 7PM to help get everyone home before the 'really' cold weather hits at night. Please come prepared during Test and Tune to finish your registrations and such to help speed things up for opening night.

Starting on the second night, drivers and their cars must be checked no later than 5:45PM. Due to the tight time schedule, you may only 'call in - check in' once a month. Opening night, we will start as soon as possible, trying to maybe start before 7:30 on opening night. We hope this will help keep the fans in the stands as long as possible. In June, the start time will revert to 7:30PM.

Unfortunately, front gate admission prices will rise to $12 on 'regular nights' and $15 on 'special nights.' Kids will remain at $5. A season grandstand pass can be obtained for $220. Pit passes remain at $25. In probably the best deal of the year, a family pass for two adults and two kids is only $25!

I have received draft versions of the revised versions of the the Pro Truck rules, Street Stock rules, and the Pro Stock rules.

As announced at the banquet, there is a new rule for the Pro Trucks:

OPTIONAL TRANSMISSION RULE Bert type transmissions will be allowed. If a Bert type transmission is used, you must add an additional 50 lbs on each side in front of the engine plate. Weight may be adjusted for competitive quality. NO BALL SPLINE TRANSMISSIONS WILL BE PERMITTED.

If you can't make it to the track, you can use our exclusive DVR option to see all of the LIVE action or see the replay immediately after the race by visiting this page and then using the slider bar to jump around by visiting this LINK

Special thanks to our long time partners,Engine Pro and ARP for their continued support in bringing you live coverage of the race night events. If you haven't filled out your "Pay Dirt" application from Engine Pro, now is a good time to do so! CLICK HERE for info!

For those that intend to have minors entering the pits, here is the minor release form to have pre-filled out. PLEASE NOTE! "Legal" people say you need to do one of two things. Fill it out and have it notarized or fill it out but don't sign it until you are at the track so track officials can countersign it. Other forms will be posted here shortly.

July 16, 2011 Highlights

Crystal, MI - Saturday night at Crystal Motor Speedway was a hot muggy night with plenty of action. The Late Models had the night off to make room for the SOD Sprints. Dustin Daggett’s long win streak was broken with Daggett being in Ohio at Eldora and oddly enough, it was an Ohio driver who took home the win in the event.

Stuart Brubaker jumped out front within a few laps and despite a couple challenges, he was never headed. Brett Mann and Gary Fast finished out the top three.

Doug McKeown Sr had the lead early in the Port City Pro Stock feature but slid high in turn two, handing the lead over to Derek Schestag with McKeown sliding back to third. Ryan Kent and Reb Marble moved into the top five and were soon joined by Gary Buskirk and Mike Husted. Schestag found the clean air to his liking and he went on to claim his first feature win of the season, followed by Buskirk, Husted, Chaney Newland, and Kent. Schestag and Marble grabbed heat wins.

Andrew Fidler, Richard Melton, Bob Griffin, and David Dancer made up the front pack in the Engine Pro Pro Truck feature. Carl Thayer made his way to third with Ashlee Scott following him to fourth. Scott Nieman rode the rails and began to dual with Thayer for the lead when Thayer got loose and brought out the caution after several laps of perilously close racing. Once the green fell, Nieman jumped out front again and went on to win over Dancer, Griffin, Scott, and Dave Peters. Dancer and Thayer snagged heat wins.

The Engine Pro IMCA Modified feature event was a barn burner that found Chad Precord, Jimmy Hale Jr, and Jason Borton out front. Hale fought for the lead several times but Precord was not giving it up. Myron DeYoung moved to third about the same time Hale took the lead Precord gained it back a lap later. With laps winding down, last years champ began his challenge and with just moments left in the race, Ward took the lead and the win over Precord, DeYoung, Jerry Hunt, and Bob Hutson. Mike Shanteau took the B Main with heats falling to Borton, Hale, and DeYoung.

The Smokers Club of Mt. Pleasant Street Stocks got started with Bill Wilkins, Doug Helsel, and Tim Buskirk jumping well out in front of the pack. Kyle Prochazka, Mike VanderMark Jr, and Will Stanley moved up in the second pack of cars all fighting to hold the fourth position. Helsel pushed the leader hard but when it was over, Wilkins scored his first win of the season over Helsel, Prochazka, Stanley, and VanderMark. J.R. Schmid and Wilkins posed for heat wins.

Austin Bean led the opening laps of the Races On The Web Flinn Stock division with Taylor Daniels and Alex Richards tight behind. Daniels slowed allowing Zach Rummer and Garrett Wiles to move up. Wiles went on to score the win over Richards, Rummer, Taylor Wiles, Chris DeCamp, Scott Glidden, Matt Daggett, Jaycee Baker, Neil Zeigler, Bobby Reed, Daniels, and Felicia Rohn. Daniels and Bean won heats.

Next week at Crystal Motor Speedway is the always popular “Yes2Kids Night” where kids can ride with one of their favorite drivers. This event is held from 6PM to 7PM so get there early! Adult admission is $10 and kids 5-11 are $4. Pit gates open at 4:30 and grandstand gates open at 5PM. Race fans will want to consider the Thursday night race at the Ionia Fairgrounds big half mile track. The race starts at 7PM and features the SOD Sprints and the Engine Pro IMCA Modifieds.
